a new name

There's something about names. Some are endearing, and some not so much. Some are just normal, and fit with the person like the color of their hair, and some are given to you at a young age by your siblings and have stuck like duct tape ever since.

Names can be serious or silly. They can be given on a whim or carry a great deal of responsibility. They can be light as a joke or heavy as a full time job.

I recently gained a name.

It came sooner than I had planned. It's been three years since I started this journey. I made a decision, chose a school, moved south, and lived on the edge of my comfort zone.

No, more like ten miles outside of it.

This summer I've done a lot of growing up. I didn't go home the moment school was out. I got a job at a real hospital, moved into a real house, and started thinking about real monthly bills.

I walked in to my new summer job expecting to be challenged, but not quite this challenged. My boss is an enthusiastic, sky's the limit type of person. He, along with several other nurses I work with encouraged me to study and take my LPN boards this summer.

So I did. And I passed. And now I'm a real nurse.

At once I am humbled, terrified, excited, and thankful.

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. Prov 31:25
